JOILET, IL - 24-year-old Ayla Agren ran her first laps in the newly-designed Tatuus PM-18, for the Pro Mazda Championship Series Presented by Cooper Tires, this past week at the challenging Autobahn Country Club road course. The series is part of the Mazda Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires developmental program.
Driving for Pabst Racing - the 2017 USF2000 team champions - Agren faced a host of adversities, but maintained strong and consistent lap times.
"It felt really good to be back in a car again," said Agren. "I have been super excited to get into a PM-18, and the car at its fullest did not disappoint. Very thankful to have been given this opportunity to test with Pabst Racing, which BayMane has made possible. And I can't wait to get into a PM-18 again."
Team owner Augie Pabst III was pleased with what he saw in the young driver.
"After overcoming unforeseen electronics issues, Ayla had a great test, demonstrating her ability to wheel the new Tatuus PM-18 in very unseasonal weather conditions."
Beginning this season, Agren is being represented by the BayMane Sports Management group to facilitate all aspects of her career.
Micheal "Mack" McCormack, BayMane's Executive Director, was on-hand and impressed with what he saw.
"Ayla's test in my eyes was nothing but amazing. She dealt with poor weather, cold and wet track conditions like that was how it was supposed to be, all in stride. Very impressed."
BayMane's other principal, Gina Bernacchi, the company's Managing Director, was thrilled with the results.
"I was unable to attend the test, but with less than optimal conditions of the track and Ayla's ability to adjust and overcome, I must say that I am quite impressed! Her talent is an inspiration."
The 2018 Pro Mazda Championship Series kicks off their racing season on March 9-11 on the Streets of St. Petersburg (FL) for Rounds 1 & 2 on the schedule.
