Indianapolis, Ind. – Will Owen scored his best career finish of second today at the Indianapolis Grand Prix during the third race of the weekend for the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires. The Juncos Racing driver finished only one second behind the leader after a fierce 21-lap battle at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

It was a busy few days for the Pro Mazda grid as they competed in the usual two races of the race weekend, plus an additional race which was a make up for the postponed event at NOLA Motorsports Park earlier in the month. Owen scored back to back eight place finishes during the first two races of the weekend and was involved In numerous fierce on-track battles including an exciting fight for positions on the last laps of the second race with his Juncos teammates Jose Gutierrez and Garett Grist.

For the third race Owen had a strong qualifying effort and the 20-year-old lined up third on the grid. At the drop of the green flag he quickly moved past second place and was almost able to pass for the lead while braking for the first corner. For the rest of the race he kept the pressure on the leader Santiago Urrutia never being farther than a few tenths behind, but he was never able to get close enough to attempt a pass. His second-place finish is the best of his rookie season.

The next event in the Pro Mazda schedule will take place May 23 at Lucas Oil Raceway Park where Owen will drive his #23 AMR Pro Mazda car for the first time on an oval.

“We finally made it on the podium, I’m so excited to be standing up here at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! It was really close out there, it was a constant battle between me and the leader. I wish I could’ve pulled off the win but I’m up here on the podium and I’m really excited about this result. The Juncos car was great, and all of the help I’ve received from my sponsors and from my family this weekend has been fantastic, so I’m super excited to be back up here and I cant wait to be back in the future. I want to thank American Medical Response, Juncos Racing, Speed Group, Mazda and Cooper Tires for all their support and for making it possible for me to be here.”
