Speedway, Ind. – The end of the 2021 Indy Pro 2000 Presented by Cooper Tires Championship has come to a close for driver Jacob Abel and the No. 51 Crosley Brands (www.crosleybrands.com) / Abel Construction team.

While the final race weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course did not go how the team had hoped, Abel Motorsports is excited about the momentum and chemistry that were gained over the nine-event season.

“Coming into this season with a new team and new mentality was definitely an unknown, but I am so proud of how the team and I came together. They forced me to look at things differently and never stopped working to give me the best car possible, and I know that with how hard we will work this off-season the sky is the limit in 2022,” said Jacob Abel.

The weekend at Mid-Ohio was an uphill battle, as passing was once again at a premium. Race 1 saw Abel laying down very competitive lap times, but unfortunately he was not able to get around as many cars as his times would predict. However, Abel managed to get around one car and wind up coming home in sixth.

The major story in race 2 was the weather, would it be completely wet or would the rain stop with enough time to dry the track? Ultimately the race was declared a wet race at the start, which meant that the next question would be when teams could put slick tires on. Once again, Abel was quick but with the track drying, the rain tires began to wear out faster. On lap 20 the team and Abel decided to pit to try their luck with slick tires. Everything went to plan, but a caution ended the race earlier than expected so Abel did not have enough time to get the tires up to temp and really put pressure on the leaders. Abel would wind up finishing in ninth position.

“It was a tough weekend at Mid-Ohio, we just couldn’t quite hit on the setup all weekend, but I am proud of my team and everyone around me for not giving up. We have built something great here at Abel Motorsports with all of our guys and partners and I can’t wait to see what we can do in 2022,” said Abel.

Abel Motorsports ends the 2022 Indy Pro 2000 championship sitting sixth in the championship standings. Abel Motorsports would like to thank all its team members and partners for their dedication throughout the season and would like to express how proud the team is to represent everyone that supports them.
